I am writing this review after a month of gap and that’s because I was on vacations. I had a wonderful time with my wife and daughter in Malaysia and Indonesia. Spending time with family is just awesome.

Today I will be writing an in-depth Long Tail Pro review.

What is Long Tail Pro?

In simple words, Long Tail Pro is a keyword research tool.

Since I have already reviewed other keyword research tools like Power Suggest Pro, Micro Niche Finder and others, LongTail Pro was missing so I thought to review it too. The idea is to let you guys compare and choose the most appropriate keyword research software.

Long Tail Pro is a web-based software which you install on your computer. It is created in Adobe Air and the overall user interface is clean and tidy (more on this in later part of the review).

It pulls data from Google Keyword Planner and directly from Google search results, to find long tail keywords along with other details like CPC, monthly searches, competitiveness of the keywords and much more.

Makes sense, right.

Before moving ahead towards the review, let me briefly and quickly explain what long tail keywords are. What is a long tail keyword anyway? Since this piece of software pulls a list of long tail keywords for you therefore it is important to understand what a long-tail keyword is.

What Is a Long-Tail Keyword?

A long-tail keyword is a phrase or even a complete sentence that is a combination of multiple key words and/or phrases. As a general rule of thumb, a long-tail keyword is one that consists of at least four keywords (according to Neil Patel). How KC is calculated?

You can install it on Window as well as on Mac. You must have latest version of Adobe Air installed on your machine.

Sign up for Google AdWords if you are not already registered. You need to keep your Google AdWords account open when you are using the software as it pulls data directly from AdWords so you must be signed into it.

Also, make sure that you have selected the right country and currency in AdWords so as to get appropriate results and CPC.

Step #4

Open the software. Choose the right tab from top right corner. There are three tabs; Keyword Research, Competitor Analysis and Rank Checker.

For instance, if you want to search for keywords, select Keyword Research and enter the seed keyword which could be anything. It will pull long-tail keywords for the seed keyword. Give it some time as it will need some time to pull data.

Step #5

After search has been completed, you can refer to the extracted keywords. Refer to columns which include average CPC, local searches and competition.

Cons

• Customer support is not one of the quickest, I must say. They do respond but the response time is well over 24 hours. If that’s OK with you, not an issue but for someone like me – it is definitely not a good sign.
• Pro + Platinum plan is definitely expensive because it comes with a monthly subscription.

How to Use Long Tail Pro: Best Practices

If you have decided to try Long Tail Pro, let me share a few ways to use it for best results.

It is just a piece of software that will provide you with a list of keywords but it doesn’t tell you how you have to use those keywords. There are people who are really killing their competition with Long Tail Pro while there are others that are on Pro + Platinum package but are unable to see any results.

The only difference is what you do with the long-tail keywords and how you use them.

Here are a few suggestions and best practices.

• The most appropriate keywords to target are the ones with low competition.
• Use long-tail keywords in your blog titles, URL, headings, for PPC campaigns, for buying domains and for SEO. There are so many ways to use these keywords – just be creative.
• The longer a keyword is easier it is to rank and better targeted it is.
• Not all the long tail keywords are buying keywords. You have to refine your search and should choose those buying long tail keywords only.
• Always make sure you are signed in to one and only one Gmail and AdWords account while using this software else it will keep on saying that software is unable to log into your Google AdWords account.

It all depends on how you are using these keywords – nothing else!

There are massive benefits of using long-tail keywords including (but not limited to) highly targeted traffic, high conversion rate, better search engine ranking (that we all love) and it is the latest trend.

The thing is you should target long tail keywords whether you use a software like Long Tail Pro or you do it manually or you do it via Google Keyword Tool. The hook is there is no way without it – especially in the long-run.

While doing it manually is possible but it is way too time-consuming and if you use Google AdWords that will not give you as accurate results as Long Tail Pro. So this software is definitely worth trying especially if you are not using any other keyword research tool.
